Chawan @ Citta Mall

Chawan, the local kopi café, began operations on the 21st of August 2006, in the CHOW Food Gallery, Level 4, The Weld, KL. The two partners of this fully owned local venture are Ahmad Farid Yahaya and Afzal Abdul Rahim. Chawan was created from the need to have a local coffee joint with all the comforts of a bistro, along with the added convenience of offering free Internet access to its customers.

Chawan celebrates Kopi, our homegrown coffee blends. This is downhome, unpretentious coffee like our mother made them, before we made fashion accessories of lattes and cappuccinos. This is coffee of our collective memories. From Johor to Pahang to Sabah, we honour our local brews in their surprising variety of roasts, flavor and aroma.

From just a small joint serving local coffee with sandwiches, it expended into a full fledge café serving local food when the second location at Jalan Telawi 3 in Bangsar was opened in June 2008, Chawan at Citta Mall in June 2011, and our third restaurant opened at Publika Solaris, Mont Kiara in December 2011. Up to date Chawan has 14 types of local coffee namely Kemaman, Kota Bharu, Kulim, Hang Tuah, Taiping, Ipoh, Tanjung Malim, Teluk Intan, Muar 434, Batu Pahat, Aik Cheong, Tenom, Kapal Api and Tupai.

Each Coffee is brewed fresh by the cup, served in a Baba Nyonya chawan, along with a “biskut Kapal”. The coffee could be served hot, cold, ice blended or even milkshake and not forgetting our signature “Chawan Frappe” which is a mixture of nescafe with any of the local coffee and milk. Special request like kaw, kurang kaw, lebih kaw etc are cheerfully accepted as we know how important it is for you to have your kopi just right.

As Malaysians love to eat, Chawan offers a variety of local food from the all day breakfast menu with our famous nasi lemak bungkus to ubi kayu (Tapioca) with kelapa parut and sambal, to big bites with nasi lemak ayam goreng berempah, nasi briyani, nasi tomato to named a few to noodles like mee rebus tulang, mee bandung and curry laksa and small bites like keropok lekor etc.

We are committed to maintaining a related atmosphere that is well managed, friendly and efficient, where our customers are able to take that much needed time out over a good up of local coffee and local food.
