The Bubba Gump Shrimp Company is an American casual dining seafood restaurant chain inspired by the 1994 film Forrest Gump. The company is named after the movie’s two main characters, Bubba Blue and Forrest Gump, who had the desire to go into the shrimp industry. Viacom owns Paramount Pictures, the company that released the film. As of first quarter of 2013, over forty Bubba Gump restaurants operate worldwide. Twenty-nine of these locations are in the United States, three are in Japan, two are located in Mexico, three in Malaysia and one each in the Philippines, Indonesia and Hong Kong. The headquarters located in San Clemente, California has been a division of Laundry’s Restaurants since 2010. NZ Diners Sdn Bhd is the franchise holder of the Bubba Gump Shrimp Co chain in Malaysia.
